LeBron James has not confirmed his retirement plans for the end of the season, despite speculation about a farewell tour. Sources indicate that retirement remains a possibility and that he has made no definitive decisions regarding his future.
Fans have long suspected that Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James would want, as other legends before him have had, a farewell retirement tour.
Many then assumed James would not retire at the end of this season because he has not had that treatment during his "final" visit to each arena around the league, getting showered with cheers and gifts from the adoring public.
But according to Sam Amick and Dan Woike, the reality is that folks who have spoken directly to James have heard this is not a priority for him (via The Athletic):
"Team and league sources granted anonymity to speak openly say James has made no decisions regarding his future; that retirement remains a real possibility. The notion that James would want a farewell tour — long cited as evidence that this season was not his last — is false, those sources said, with several sources even hearing that directly from James himself."
So the lack of retirement tour does not suggest he isn't going to retire. But it's still plausible he comes back, too.
According to the report, the Lakers have not ruled out the possibility of James returning to Los Angeles.
The Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers are seen as potential suitors if he does not return to the Lakers.
Depending on how the Lakers fare in the first round of the postseason against the Houston Rockets, it is fair to assume James will get more evidence about how he wants to proceed with his professional career.
LeBron James has not made any official announcement about retiring after this season, and sources suggest that retirement is still a possibility.
Sources close to LeBron James indicate that he has not prioritized a farewell tour and has made no decisions about his future in the NBA.
Fans believe LeBron James might have a farewell tour due to his status as a superstar, but sources claim this notion is false and not a priority for him.
