Is Russell Wilson retiring? Ex-NFL star eying TV pivot, per report

With his playing career nearing an end, Russell Wilson better keep polishing up those catchphrases for the next stage of his life. That's because the stage is apparently, well, an actual stage.

Wilson, 37, is in "deep discussions" to pivot into TV, according to The Athletic's Andrew Marchand. CBS is reportedly the favorite to land Wilson, and if that comes to fruition he'd join The NFL Today, the network's Sunday pregame show.

This wouldn't be Wilson's first foray into TV, or even CBS. The Super Bowl champion appeared as a guest analyst on The NFL Today during the New York Giants' bye-week a season ago.

If Wilson were to land a TV role, he'd likely have to retire after 14 NFL seasons. The former third-round pick made 10 Pro Bowls and led the Seattle Seahawks to a Super Bowl win in 2014. It was one of the NFL's most memorable underdog stories until the last four years of Wilson's career, when he floundered with the Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers and Giants.

Starting opportunities have dwindled for Wilson as his play has declined. He's currently a free agent, and the only reported interest in him has come from the New York Jets, who have Wilson's former teammate, Geno Smith, signed as QB1.

Wilson often seemed rehearsed and robotic during press conferences throughout his playing career. If he does make the leap to TV, he'll have to learn be more organically himself to find as much success as he did on the field.
