Today marks the final day of the 2025-26 NHL regular season for the Chicago Blackhawks as they host the San Jose Sharks. Both teams are looking to end the season on a positive note despite recent struggles.

After another long and eventful ride, today marks the final day of the 2025-26 NHL regular season for the Chicago Blackhawks. Macklin Celebrini and the San Jose Sharks, who were recently eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, come to town for a matchup at the United Center. While it’s the Sharks’ penultimate game of the year, it’s the last for the Blackhawks.
The league was likely hoping for a more meaningful matchup between two former No. 1 overall picks and their budding franchises to close out the season. However, there are still plenty of reasons for the Blackhawks to try to finish on a high note, as they’ve dropped three consecutive games on home ice and would like to head into the offseason with some momentum, at least.

Chicago Hockey Now: The season-ending four-game homestand has proved to be a disaster thus far, with three consecutive multi-goal defeats. Following a 5-1 loss to the Buffalo Sabres on Monday, the Chicago Blackhawks were booed off the ice by their home fans. Not a very promising way to go into the offseason.
The Athletic: After revealing his top 100 drafted NHL prospects, Scott Wheeler dropped his top 20 drafted goaltenders list on Tuesday. Blackhawks’ netminder Drew Commesso made an appearance.
In OHL news, Jack Pridham tallied two assists in the Kitchener Rangers’ 4-3 win over the Soo Greyhounds on Tuesday. Kitchener now holds a 3-0 advantage in the second-round series. Pridham is up to 10 points (all assists) in seven postseason appearances.
Fellow OHL prospect AJ Spellacy scored a highlight reel goal, which proved to be the game-winner, in the Windsor Spitfires 2-1 win over the Flint Firebirds on Tuesday. Windsor also now has a 3-0 lead in their second-round series. Spellacy has recorded six points (2G, 4A) in seven postseason games.
The Athletic: Columbus Blue Jackets head coach Rick Bowness isn’t sure that he’ll be back in the same role next year, but he made quite the pitch to return. Bowness snapped at the media about the lack of effort from his team following a 2-1 loss to the Washington Capitals. He says he will change this culture if he comes back.
NHL.com: Nick Schmaltz scored twice to lead the Utah Mammoth to a 5-3 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday, which locked them into the top Wild Card playoff spot in the Western Conference. Aka, they’ve dodged the Colorado Avalanche in the first round.
Boston Hockey Now: With a 4-0 win over the New Jersey Devils, the Boston Bruins will officially play the Buffalo Sabres in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Boston has clinched the top Wild Card spot in the Eastern Conference.
Sportsnet: Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk is feeling good and appears to be ready for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Sens have a date with the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round of the postseason.
Montreal Hockey Now: The Montreal Canadiens faced the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday night, marking the end of the regular season for both clubs. The Habs sat most of their star players, allowing them to get fully healthy for their first-round matchup with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Islanders Hockey Now: The New York Islanders recalled top prospect Victor Eklund ahead of their season finale. Eklund made his NHL debut against the Carolina Hurricanes and tallied an assist on the Isles’ lone goal of the game.
