Jalen Reed, a 6-foot-10 forward from LSU, has committed to Michigan basketball from the transfer portal. He is expected to bolster Michigan's frontcourt as they await NBA Draft decisions from current players.
As the Wolverines await NBA Draft decisions from center Aday Mara and forward Morez Johnson Jr., they continued to restock their frontcourt.
Michigan landed another commitment from an SEC big man out of the transfer portal, this time receiving a pledge from Jalen Reed, a 6-foot-10, 230-pound forward from LSU, on Thursday.
Big man Jalen Reed (13) was limited to 14 games the past two seasons at LSU due to injuries.
Reed, a former top-100 recruit, shared news of his commitment on his Instagram page.
Reed has spent the past four years at LSU, but he’s been limited to 14 games the past two seasons after suffering back-to-back season-ending injuries.
He started eight games in 2024-25 and averaged 11.1 points and 6.5 rebounds in 23.6 minutes before he went down with an ACL injury. Last season, he played in six games and averaged 9.5 points and 5.7 rebounds in 18 minutes before an Achilles injury cut his campaign short.
For his career, Reed has played in 79 games and made 39 starts with the Tigers.
Reed joins J.P. Estrella, a 6-11 forward from Tennessee, as Michigan’s second transfer portal commitment this cycle. The two will help replenish and fill holes in the frontcourt with the losses of Yaxel Lendeborg (out of eligibility), Will Tschetter (out of eligibility) and Malick Kordel (transfer to Minnesota). Mara and Johnson could add to that total if they opt to declare for the NBA Draft before Friday’s deadline and opt to keep their name in it.
