The New York Jets have made a ton of changes to their roster this offseason, whether it was through the NFL Draft, free agency, or the trade market.
It's been a busy offseason, but there is still some more work to do. Adding running back and wide receiver depth could be nice, but the most pressing issue is at quarterback.
Geno Smith is the starter, and fourth-round rookie Cade Klubnik is a developmental QB option. But, realistically, the Jets need another veteran QB. According to Rich Cimini of ESPN, the Jets are in "no rush" to add such a player this offseason.
"No rush to add another veteran QB," Cimini writes. "The flirtation with free agent Russell Wilson has garnered a lot of attention, but the Jets aren't sweating out his decision."
While the Jets might be passively pursuing a veteran backup quarterback, their options in free agency are dwindling, and quickly. This key position is one the Jets might be running out of time to acquire.
The Jets are prioritizing other roster needs and feel they can manage with their current options.

The Jets are considering adding depth at running back and wide receiver, but the main focus is on the quarterback position.

Smith is the starter, and one that head coach Aaron Glenn believes in a lot. But, after him and Klubnik, the Jets only have Brady Cook and Bailey Zappe on the roster.
Neither Cook nor Zappe should be anywhere close to the field for the Jets, and to ensure that's the case, they have to add another quarterback who can actually play if needed.
Russell Wilson would make sense, but he's mulling the Jets contract offer as he's considering a pivot to television this upcoming season.
The other QB options left in free agency aren't great either. Jimmy Garoppolo and Teddy Bridgewater might retire, while Brett Rypien, Easton Stick, John Wolford, and Jeff Driskel are far from ideal options.
Other than Wilson, their best bet is Cooper Rush, and he's already working out with another team as he seeks an NFL offer. Desmond Ridder, who was just cut recently, might be an option, but even he is far from ideal.
So, while Cimini is reporting the Jets aren't in any rush to add a veteran QB to the roster, their options are dwindling, and it would not be a surprise if they had some very bleak QBs as their only options in the near future in free agency.
