The New York Jets came into the 2026 NFL offseason with a clear goal of adding help to their quarterback room. They needed help in a major way, as Justin Fields clearly wasn't the answer.
They traded for Geno Smith from the Las Vegas Raiders, and then drafted Cade Klubnik during Day 3 of the 2026 NFL Draft. But the Jets want to add one more QB, and preferably, a veteran to back up Smith in 2026.
However, with Russell Wilson flirting with retirement and a TV job, and now Tom Pelissero of NFL Network's report that Tyrod Taylor is set to sign with the , the Jets are running out of options at QB this offseason.

"Veteran QB Tyrod Taylor is signing with the Packers, per source," Pelissero reports. "A new No. 2 in Green Bay."
This addition for the Packers is some bad news for the Jets. With the team looking for another quarterback and a veteran with starting experience in the NFL, this signing leaves very few options in the open market for the Jets.
Aaron Rodgers is technically a free agent, but he's not an option for the Jets. Wilson might not play in the NFL again with a TV gig on the table, and now Taylor is off the board.
That leaves Cooper Rush, the former Dallas Cowboys and Baltimore Ravens QB, as the top option. He wouldn't be ideal, but he's the best of the rest.
Jimmy Garoppolo is also a free agent, but he's considering retirement as well. Teddy Bridgewater could be an option, though he's not likely the Jets' best bet.
The only other noteworthy veterans are Easton Stick, Brett Rypien, Jeff Driskel, and John Wolford. None of those options would be ideal for the Jets.
If the Jets can't convince Wilson to come to New York instead of a TV gig, and another team swoops in for Rush, and Garoppolo and Bridgewater retire, the Jets might be without any good options for their backup QB job.
Their only other options might have to be another trade, which would be far from ideal. Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey are running out of QB options following this Taylor signing, as the best available QBs are less-than-ideal backups.
