It looks likely that LIV Golf will meet its demise at the end of 2026.
The Saudi Public Investment Fund, which has pumped billions of dollars into the league since mid-2021, is reportedly no longer able to justify the deficit the league is running at, and is pulling the plug.
That gives the league until the end of the year to find new investors, or call it quits on this controversial golfing enterprise. The future of the tour, and the players who play on it, is now clouded with uncertainty.
LIVâs players were in the dark about the tourâs future until it was reported publicly. And before journalists had the opportunity to ask players, their press conference was canceled due to technical difficulties.
But after LIVâs opening round in Mexico City, Jon Rahm was finally asked for his thoughts on the tourâs future.

Rahm has cut a frustrated figure since arriving at Augusta National, where he finished T38. But he bounced back with a six-under start in Mexico City to bring himself to within one of the lead.
And after playing his opening round in Mexico, he was asked how the news had affected his preparation for the event.
Rahm responded, âUntil the people in charge told me whether the rumors were true or not. For me, it didnât make sense to think about it or waste time thinking about it. We were here; we knew we were going to play, so the idea was to prepare for a tournament. And thatâs it.

âSince everything happened so suddenly and so quickly, I wasnât very worried about it because normally, before the rumors start, we already know something. Thereâs always someone within the league who knows something; it happened so fast that I really didnât worry about it.â
Rahm still isnât concerned about the future of the tour, despite the reports, so itâs business as usual for him!
LIV CEO Scott OâNeil did an interview with LIV commentator Arlo White after the reports surfaced to provide some clarity on the future of the tour.
During that interview, he explained why he thinks the PGA Tour players should want LIV to continue, âWell, Iâm not sure. I donât spend a lot of time thinking about it. Iâm disappointed with some of the coverage.
âIâve never read â been in an industry that has more unnamed sources than this one. In fact, I was reading through some coverage this morning, and I couldnât find one source on the record in all the articles that were written.
âI would just say letâs be responsible. If I am a PGA TOUR player, I want LIV to survive. These prize purses are pretty good. Competition is good for business. If Iâm a television network, Iâd love LIV Golf to survive. Itâs good television. If Iâm a reporter, it certainly makes the news a little more spicy, or has occasionally.
âIf youâre a fan, you want more golf around the world. If youâre outside the U.S., we are outside the saturated market and weâre in markets that are dying for this kind of action.â
If you believe OâNeil, heâs determined for the league to continue beyond 2026, so we shall see what transpires in the coming months.
