If you missed it yesterday, Ty Simpson was on Jon Gruden’s annual QB Class segment for the top QBs in each draft class.
While Gruden can be a bit annoying at times, this is a really cool watch to get a glimpse into the vocabulary and mechanics of how offenses call plays and how a QB goes through progressions. We got a lot of good clips in this, including Gruden hating on Ryan Grubb’s terminology for plays.
Next, Kalen DeBoer has really been doing the rounds in the media over the last week, this time giving a 20-minute appearance with Christian Miller’s podcast and another interview with Ryan Fowler.
“Sometimes you got to be careful not to oversell what’s happening each and every day on our practice fields, but that was more of the same from what we’ve seen from Keelon. … Keelon got a chance to take advantage of a few extra reps, and I thought he did exactly that, and that’s what he should do, and I’m proud of him for it.
While DeBoer is obviously doing his best to temper things, you can tell that he’s as much, if not more excited, about Keelon Russell than the rest of us fans.
Unfornately, DeBoer also confirmed something we were fearing after A-Day – Noah Rogers is going to be out for a while.
DeBoer confirmed the news during an interview with WTUG-FM, saying, “Unfortunately, he suffered an injury that’s going to take a little while to recover. It will bleed into the season here a little bit. I’m not going to give a timeline exactly. He won’t be ready to go right when the season starts. We do expect it to be a situation where he will get to be back during the season.”
Terrible news for Rogers, as it was seeming like he had a good shot of becoming the Tide’s #3 receiver. You have to feel awful for the guy, especially since there’s a good chance that even if he gets cleared to play sometime mid-season, he’ll have a long ways to go to catch up.
And the positive side of that is that Derek Meadows and Cederian Morgan both looked positively excellent during A-Day, and Rogers having a tough time cracking back into the depth chart would mean that one of both of them hit. And man, how exciting would it be to have a massive WR ready to make an impact this fall?
A top Alabama 2027 recruiting target, elite quarterback prospect Elijah Haven has officially set a commitment date, per Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman.
Haven has been a top target for the Crimson Tide since his recruitment originally began. The talented quarterback’s finalists currently include Alabama, Auburn, and Georgia, as Haven is expected to make an official decision in regard to his recruitment on April 25, per Spiegelman.
Alabama has long been putting out the full-court press for 2027 QB Elijah Haven – who’s in the debate for the top overall recruit for the class. Following up Keelon Russell With Haven would be quite the coup.
In other news, Alabama’s women’s hoops team got another player into the WNBA!
For the first time in back-to-back years, the Alabama women’s basketball program had a student-athlete hear their name called during the Women’s National Basketball Association Draft on Monday night at The Shed at Hudson Yards.
Jessica Timmons was selected by the Indiana Fever with the 40th pick (third round) to become the program’s 12th overall draft selection. The Crimson Tide has now had six players in the last six years drafted in the WNBA Draft as Timmons joins Sarah Ashlee Barker (Los Angeles Sparks), Aaliyah Nye (Las Vegas Aces) and Zaay Green (Washington Mystics), who were all selected during last year’s draft.
Roll Tide, Jessica!
