The Denver Broncos selected tight end Justin Joly with their fifth-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft. Joly is eager to contribute in various roles and learn from veteran players on the team.
The Denver Broncos used their fifth-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft last month to select NC State's Justin Joly, a versatile tight end who's willing to take on any role the team gives him in Year 1.
“Honestly, anything they need me to do, I’m looking forward to," Joly said during a conference call after being picked by Denver. "They just said I have to go out there and ball... They said to me to go play all over the field. I’m obviously going to learn from the big guys and the older guys. Just looking forward to being there and being with the team. Sean Payton and George Paton both believe in me. I’m looking forward to it.”
Joly (6-3, 241 pounds) figures to be a potential long-term replacement for receiving tight end Evan Engram, who will turn 32 in September. Joly will be more than just a receiving threat, though, as the team will move him around and involve him as a blocker in the run game.
“I feel like there are a lot of things that they feel like I can do, being used in the backfield, in the slot," Joly said. "Obviously, I’m going to have to learn and get ready to just play. Overall, I look forward to it, and I know they do too. I’m just happy they believe in my skill set.”
Joly totaled 92 receptions for 1.150 yards and 11 touchdowns in two seasons (25 games) with the Wolfpack. Like most prospects coming out of college, he can improve as a blocker. Denver has the staff in place to help him.
“I’m super confident, obviously," Joly said of his ability to block. "I feel like I’m going to have more coaching as well, so just being able to go down there and show off that I can do both, catching and blocking. I feel like the Broncos have faith in me. They chose me for a reason there.”
Joly is set to hit the field when rookies report for minicamp later this week (May 8-10). He will be a key member of the draft class to watch going into the summer.
