The Alabama Crimson Tide and head coach Kalen DeBoer have agreed to a seven-year contract extension, according to On3's Wilson Alexander.
The new deal raises his average annual salary to $12.5 millions and was approved by the Alabama board of trustees on Wednesday. His buyout has also changed, and is now $10 million through January 2027, $8 million through January 2028, and $6 million through January 2029.
DeBoer has spent two seasons in Tuscaloosa, going 20-8 since taking over from legendary head coach Nick Saban. They took a step forward in his second season, going 11-4 and making it to the College Football Playoff, where they beat the Oklahoma Sooners in the first round before losing to the Indiana Hoosiers in the Rose Bowl, who then went on to win the national championship.
He was reportedly considered for several other major jobs during that run, most notably the Michigan Wolverines. He has repeatedly stated that he never had any conversations with the Wolverines and is now tied to Alabama long-term.
The 2026 season will be a massive one for DeBoer, with the Crimson Tide experiencing severe roster turnover from a year ago. Getting blown out by Georgia in the SEC Championship Game and Indiana in the Rose Bowl also increased the pressure on him to meet Alabama's standards.
