Kellogg Community College baseball team achieved a remarkable 23-game winning streak, one of the best in its history, before losing to Lansing Community College on April 11. The Bruins' strong offense and team confidence contributed to their success during this period.
BATTLE CREEK - For some of February, all of March and into April, the wins were coming so fast for the Kellogg Community College baseball team, the Bruins practically forgot how to lose.
KCC is coming off of a 23-game winning streak, one of the best in program history. The Bruins beat Aquinas College JV on Feb. 19 in a non-conference game. And, then KCC didn't lose again until Saturday, April 11 in a 14-11 defeat at the hands of Lansing Community College.
"You get things clicking a little bit. And, our offense has been really tough for anybody to slow down. Then, all of a sudden, things start snowballing and you really don't know how to lose at that point," KCC coach Eric Laskovy said. "In some of those games, we had to come from behind. But we believe in ourselves and once that gets going, everybody shows up feeling good every day and that's a good thing."
Laskovy said KCC has had a few winning streaks that were similar over the years, but not many like the one they just finished.
"I remember, going back a few years to 2005 when Russ Bortell was the head coach and I was here as an assistant, and we had a 29-game winning streak. That was certainly memorable. But few have been like we just had," Laskovy said.

As the wins continued to mount up, Laskovy also climbed towards another milestone. With KCC's 18-4 win over Jackson College on Monday, April 13, Laskovy earned his 700th win as the Bruins head coach.
KCC's bat have been hot throughout the spring. Lakeview graduate Zach Kucharczyk leads the team with an impressive .505 batting average with 49 RBI and 55 runs in just 33 games. His twin brother Jake Kucharczyk is hitting .386 with 44 runs scored in 27 games. Sophomore Jake Stickler is hitting .379 with a team-high 51 RBI and seven home runs. Overall, KCC has 10 hitters who are batting better than .300.
On the pitching side, Caleb Kidd is 4-0 from the mound with Daniel Calhoun at 4-1 with a 3.03 ERA and Joshua Midbo at 4-0 with a 1.61 ERA.
The winning streak has KCC ranked No. 7 in the country in the NJCAA Division II baseball poll at 28-6 overall. The Bruins are 12-1 in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association and in first place.
"Our goal is to position ourselves for the postseason, which is what this is about. We have to be engaged and ready to play every game going forward no matter how many games we have won," Laskovy said.
