Kentucky's hopes of landing top transfer target Rob Wright have dimmed after he left without committing. Predictions now suggest he may return to BYU, marking a significant setback for coach Mark Pope.
Kentucky Wildcats coach Mark Pope is in desperate need of some good news. After a disappointing season, and the failure to land any of the top recruits, fans wanted to see him go into the transfer portal and acquire some of the best players available. On Monday, BYU guard Rob Wright, a top five player available, visited Lexington, and there were predictions that he would sign. Now, things have changed.
Wright left Kentucky on Tuesday without committing, and now On3's Pete Nakos is predicting (subscription required) that the high-scoring guard will return to BYU instead. Nothing is official yet, but this would be yet another big blow for Pope and the Wildcats.
Last season, Wright was terrific, averaging over 18 points and 4 assists per game. He also made over 40% of his three-point attempts. After a season with no real point guard, landing him would be a massive win.
There's no word on what the deciding factor for Wright is. However, BYU has a lot of money to spend, and may just be able to out-spend Kentucky for his services. We will update the situation as more information becomes available.
