Kohl Rosario announced he will return to Kansas basketball for the 2026-27 season, expressing his commitment to the program. The freshman guard showed potential last season and aims to improve after a challenging year.
LAWRENCE ā While Kansas basketball has multiple players itāll have to replace ahead of next season, one of the guys it wonāt have to worry about is Kohl Rosario.
Rosario, a freshman guard this past season, announced in a social media post on X that heās not going anywhere. Heās going to be āback for moreā at KU. And that gives the Jayhawks a player who showed potential at times in 2025-26 and could take a significant jump in 2026-27.
āIām honored to have Kansas across my chest,ā Rosario said in a voice-over for a video that included highlights from this past season. āItās something that can never be taken from me, and itās just a great feeling to know Iāll be a part of this culture and history here. Basketball is my life, man. Itās gotten me places I never thought Iād be able to make it to. Playing in Allen Fieldhouse, just, words canāt describe it. Itās different. Basketball is everything here. When youāve got the fans behind your back, it definitely adds a little confidence. Thatās why, Iām back.ā
Rosario, who added āRock Chalk Jayhawkā later on, was someone it wouldnāt have been a surprise to see enter the transfer portal following this past season. Although the 6-foot-6 and 200-pound newcomer began the season in the starting lineup, he eventually lost his spot and his minutes became much less consistent. As someone who arrived with expectations of being a 3-point shooter, while his effort was undeniable on both ends, the fact that he finished the year at 28.6% shooting from behind the arc was problematic.
Kansas has some ways to go before itāll have a finalized roster for next season, but in Rosario is someone who can compete to be in the rotation after averaging 11.6 minutes per game across 29 appearances ā with six starts ā as a freshman. Especially so, if he can become a more consistent 3-point shooter. Heāll aim to help take KU to more Big 12 Conference and national success as he remains in Lawrence.
