Kyle Hurt is with the Los Angeles Dodgers as they prepare for a series against the New York Mets, but his status remains unclear. The team has not confirmed whether he is part of the active roster or just with the taxi squad amid uncertainty surrounding closer Edwin Diaz's availability.

The Dodgers are yet to make an announcement on Hurt’s status, so whether he’s just with the taxi squad or a roster move is to come is unknown. Hurt’s presence with the team comes amid a curious situation with Dodgers closer Edwin Diaz, who hasn’t pitched since Friday. Manager Dave Roberts has remained rather secretive about the All-Star’s status.
“I’m gonna keep that one to myself,” Roberts said when asked if the Dodgers could have used Diaz during Sunday’s loss to the Texas Rangers.

When Was the Last Time Kyle Hurt Pitched for the Dodgers?
Hurt last played for the Dodgers in 2024, and only has four MLB appearances to his name.
He made his debut in 2023—his sole appearance that season—and posted two scoreless innings with three strikeouts before the Dodgers sent him back down to Triple-A.
Hurt came up to play with LA fairly early in 2024 and made three appearances, posting a 1.35 ERA through 6.2 innings while logging three more strikeouts. After those appearances, though, Hurt landed on the injured list for the remainder of the season with a shoulder issue.
More bad news befell Hurt at the beginning of the 2025 season, as he underwent Tommy John surgery and missed yet another season of baseball due to injury.
The right-hander had a strong spring training with the Dodgers in 2026 after his return, pitching 7.1 innings in the Cactus League and striking out 12 batters.
Hurt has made six appearances with Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, and has a 5.79 ERA through 4.2 innings pitched with eight strikeouts. All three of his earned runs this season came from a single outing, and he has had five scoreless performances on the season.
What Would Hurt’s Inclusion Mean for the Dodgers’ Bullpen?
If Hurt were to join the team, the corresponding move would almost certainly be an IL stint for closer Edwin Diaz.
Should that be the case, the Dodgers would have to find a new closer to take over the role, which would almost surely be Tanner Scott.
Scott has had a strong start to the year, posting a 1.35 ERA through his eight appearances this season.
The Dodgers haven’t announced whether this will be the case or not, though, so there’s still hope Diaz can remain with the team heading into a series against his former club.
What do you think Hurt’s presence with the Dodgers means?
