Chris Simms: Sean McVay, Les Snead had âa little bit of a heated argumentâ before Ty Simpson press conference

La Salle boys tennis has turned their season around, going from 1-7 to a current 6-1 streak. Their latest victory was a close 4-3 win over Moses Brown, raising concerns for other teams in Rhode Island.
PROVIDENCE â The 2026 boys tennis season has been one of the most competitive in years and while East Greenwich is the clear-cut leader of the pack â thatâll happen when you go undefeated â the gap between the Avengers and the other top teams isnât as wide as the records might indicate.
But now the boogeymen are coming.
The season couldnât have started worse for La Salle, which was ravaged by inexperience and inconsistent play that was only made worse by a tough schedule. But since starting the season 1-7, the Rams have gone 6-1 with Wednesdayâs 4-3 win over Moses Brown being the latest win in a current three-match streak.
âIt feels awesome,â said Rooney Cao, who played with Preston Feden at No. 2 doubles and clinched the winning point Wednesday. âWe were down in the blues at first, we started to pick up, started to go back to basics and listen to what coach said and thatâs what gotten us so far.
âThe energy from our team, that helped us tremendously.â
âWe lost to them the first time and I feel the second half of the season has been really good,â said All-Stater Andrew Smith, La Salleâs No. 1 singles player. âIt wasnât looking too good at the beginning of the season, so Iâm really proud of us for pulling through.
âOur record is looking a lot better now, so Iâm proud of the resilience weâve shown.â
Krithik Govindaraju came up big on Wednesday and his win at No. 3 singles helped La Salle beat Moses Brown, 4-3, to continue the Rams' second-half hot streak as they try to round into championship form.
La Salle graduated considerable talent from its team that went 12-4 last year, leaving its roster with plenty of questions and not a lot of answers outside of Smith, the defending state singles champ.
The Rams expected success, but faced a gauntlet of talent to start the season and not having players available wasnât helping things. They opened with a loss to defending state champ Barrington, a blowout against East Greenwich, then dropped a match to South Kingstown before losing to Barrington and East Greenwich again.
La Salle boys tennis currently has a record of 7-8 after a turnaround from an initial 1-7 start.
La Salle won their latest match against Moses Brown with a score of 4-3.

A win over the RM Tides â the co-op of Rogers and Middletown â stopped the losing streak, but that was followed by losses to Hendricken and Moses Brown. Something needed to change.
Getting the roster back to 100 percent helped, but the turnaround started on the practice courts, giving the Rams a chance to work on a lot of things that were causing problems..
âAt the beginning of the season we walked into practices thinking we could just walk around practice,â Smith said. âNow Iâm proud â weâre moving around, weâre moving our feet around a lot more and we have the right attitude.
âWeâre very positive and weâre growing as a team and a little more close-knit now.â

Wednesdayâs match was a measuring stick. La Salle appears locked into the No. 6 seed in the RPI standings and Moses Brown, currently fourth, could finish third. A win would be proof of concept for any title hopes.
The Ramsâ strength is singles and it showed. Smith â whoâs playing in this weekendâs RIIL Singles Championship, which resumes with quarterfinal matches on Saturday â rolled to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 and Noah Gauthier followed shortly after with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4.
Moses Brown earned the next point after Cory Weisbord finished off a terrific 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 2, but the Rams earned their third point with Krithik Govindaraju winning the final three games of the second set to earn a 6-3, 7-5 win.
Andrew Smith has led from the top for the La Salle boys tennis team, which has rounded into form after a tough start to the season and is ready to make some noise as it tries to win a championship.
La Salleâs fourth point looked like it was coming at No. 1 doubles after Gavin Britt and Connor Cavanagh won the first set, 6-2, but Moses Brownâs Dylan Armstrong and Christian Schultheis battled back to pull out the 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory.
With the Quakers in control at No. 3 doubles and up a set at second dubs, the result had seemingly flipped.
Cao and Feden flipped it back, pulling off a tough second set and then taking control in the third. With all eyes on their court, the duo closed out the last point of the 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 win and celebrated justly.
âItâs important to just stay focused on your own match and not worry about it, because then it can get in your head and mess with you,â Feden said. âYou just have to focus on yourself and get that point for your team.â
Rooney Cao came up clutch on Wednesday, as he and No. 2 doubles partner Preston Feden came up with the clinching point in their comeback win that gave La Salle a 4-3 victory over Moses Brown.
The loss drops Moses Brown to 8-5 overall with two matches left, needing wins in both to move up to the No. 3 seed. Otherwise, it seems likely the Quakers would finish fourth, which would mean a matchup against South Kingstown in the quarterfinals. If MB fell to fifth, the opponent would remain the same, but the venue would change.
La Salleâs win improves it to 7-8 on the season with a chance to get to .500 on Friday when it plays South Kingstown. The Rams should settle into the No. 6 seed, which means going on the road to take on either Hendricken â currently seeded third â or Moses Brown.
While the Rams have lost to both, they feel that the team thatâs playing now isnât the team thatâs been on the court during those matchups. They might be darkhorses to compete for the state title, but there arenât a lot of darkhorses who instill fear in the opposition just by showing up.
âI have a lot of confidence and I believe we can do it,â Smith said. âWe have to give it our best shot because no team is going to roll over, so we have to power through.
âYou always have to earn it. Iâm proud of where weâve come from, but we still have to work hard.â
Noah Gauthier took care of business Wednesday against Moses Brown, getting an early win at No. 4 singles that helped La Salle come away with a 4-3 win.
