Jermod McCoy's knee injury may impact the Lions' first-round NFL draft plans. Concerns about potential further surgery and recovery time could lower his draft stock.
The Lions have been linked to Jermod McCoy recently in the 1st round of the NFL Draft. However, a new report by Tom Pelissero reveals knee injury details that could change everyone's mock draft.
Pelissero states that McCoy had a ābone plug to repair cartilage defect in his knee... Some doctors are concerned he may need another surgery to replace the bone plug.ā
Here is what I wrote in my updated Jermod McCoy Medical Report where you can find my updated medical concern level:
This is confirmation of articular cartilage damage in the knee and explains the delayed recovery from the ACL injury. One example of a bone plug procedure is OATS (osteochondral autograft transfer system). This type of cartilage damage is consistent with the earlier report of a ādegenerativeā knee. There is a chance McCoy will not return to his previous level of athleticism. Given how important athleticism is to the CB position, this knee issue could dramatically lower his career ceiling.
If he ends up needing another bone plug procedure, that generally involves a multi-month recovery that could affect a future season.
This new information means that Lions' fans should not expect McCoy to be the Lions' pick in the 1st round.

The Lions may reconsider selecting McCoy in the first round due to concerns about his knee injury and its impact on his athleticism.
A bone plug procedure, like OATS, can lead to a multi-month recovery, which may hinder an athlete's return to peak performance.
