Michigan State basketball is reportedly still in the hunt for one of the top remaining transfer portal prospects on the market.
Michigan State is reportedly still actively pursuing Cincinnati transfer center Moustapha Thiam, according to insider Jon Rothstein. According to Rothstein, Michigan State is one of numerous teams that are currently showing interest in Thiam.
The other schools reportedly showing interest in Thiam includes St. John's, UConn, Gonzaga, Arkansas, Duke, Kansas, Texas A&M, Tennessee and UCF. He has also recently visited St. John's, according to Rothstein.
Thiam, who is listed at 7-foot-2, has started all 65 games he's played in his first two seasons at Cincinnati, averaging double-digits in scoring in both seasons. This past year, he averaged 12.8 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game.
Earlier this week, Michigan State was reported a team showing interest in Thiam and it appears that hasn't changed from that earlier report. A lot of the same teams Rothstein mentioned in his report on Friday were included in Jeff Goodman's report earlier this week. So the latest update from Rothstein isn't necessarily groundbreaking information, but it at least shows Michigan State hasn't fallen out of the race for this big-time portal target.
Michigan State is also reportedly in touch with and hosting Charlotte transfer Anton Bonke this week. So it seems clear that Bonke and Thiam are their current top two targets on the portal market. Hopefully, Michigan State can land a commitment from one, if not both, of these seven footers.
