It's been six years since Adam Gase coached the Jets, but the Jets stories about his tenure just don't stop. And on Sunday, a former player levied the accusation of Gase's drug use at the team facility.
In a podcast appearance, former All-Pro running back Le'Veon Bell claimed that Gase would use cocaine before Jets practices. Bell said that he witnessed the drug use multiple times and that it was an open secret throughout the team facility.
The accusation came up when Justin LaBoy asked Bell if there was a teammate he really hated. Instead of going with a teammate, Bell wanted to name a coach and immediately called out Gase. "He might have been the dumbest coach ever," Bell said.
He then went on to describe the drug use, via NJ.com:
“I saw him with my own two,” Bell said, referring to his eyes. “Not just once, though. It wasn’t just one time. That’s what he did, though. Everybody knew that. That’s what he did. But it was just crazy to me that I actually saw him doing it. I heard all the stories and (bleep). Yeah, that (bleep) Gase was on that cocahina. Adam Gase was fried out there calling plays.”
Bell was with the Jets in Gase's two seasons in New York. The former head coach was fired after going 2-14 in 2020. He's currently on the Chargers' staff as a pass game specialist. Gase has yet to respond to the accusation.
The ex-running back last played for the Bucs in 2021.
