Lewis Steele: Liverpool star expected to leave with Premier League club interested
On Media Matters for Anfield Index, Dave Davis and Lewis Steele discussed the growing uncertainty around Joe Gomezâs future at Liverpool, with the defender entering the final year of his contract.
The 28-year-old has just one year remaining on his current deal at Anfield and, according to Steele, there is now a strong possibility that this summer could mark the end of his long Liverpool career.
Gomez has spent almost a decade at the club and remains one of the most experienced figures in the dressing room, despite injuries and changing roles across recent seasons.
During the conversation, Steele admitted that the way Gomez has been speaking publicly has raised doubts over whether he will remain part of Arne Slotâs plans.
âI do think Gomez will go,â Steele said.
He pointed towards Gomezâs recent interviews and comments about his time at Liverpool, adding: âHe said heâs had a grateful time at the club.â
Steele suggested that kind of language did not sound like a player preparing to sign an extension. âItâs not something I think youâd be saying if you were extending,â he explained.
The potential departure of Gomez was also discussed in the wider context of Liverpoolâs leadership group potentially being dismantled this summer.
Steele described Gomez as âdefinitely one of the leaders that we donât speak about enough.â
That matters because Liverpool could lose several senior figures during the upcoming transfer window, including Mohamed Salah and potentially other experienced names around the squad.
The specific Premier League club interested in Lewis Steele has not been disclosed.

âYouâre losing so many people,â Steele warned earlier in the podcast, while questioning whether Liverpool could replace both quality and leadership in one summer.
For Steele, Gomez represents more than squad depth. He is part of the dressing room structure Liverpool have relied upon through multiple eras at Anfield.

Steele also referenced interest from Crystal Palace, who may be looking to strengthen defensively this summer.
âPalace I think were one of them,â he said when discussing clubs monitoring Gomezâs situation.
With just one year left on his contract, Liverpool may soon face a difficult choice between selling Gomez now or risking losing another experienced player for minimal value later down the line.
As Liverpool prepare for another major rebuild under Arne Slot, the uncertainty surrounding Joe Gomez has become another important issue hanging over Anfield heading into the summer window.
