Tayek joined the Guardians organization in the 1990s, and served as public address announcer from 1999-2025. Tayek announced one World Series (2016) and one MLB All-Star Game (2019) at Progressive Field.
This was to be Tayek's 27th season as the in-park voice of Cleveland baseball.
The Guardians issued a statement on April 4 stating that Tayek would be stepping away "for at least the first half of the 2026 season as he focuses on recent health challenges."
The Guardians have used a team of interim public address announcers this season.
Mark Tromba was the original public address announcer when Jacobs Field opened in 1994, and stayed in that role through 1997, announcing two World Series (1995 and 1997) and an MLB All-Star Game (1997).
