Louisiana baseball gets big win over App State
BOONE, N.C. (KLFY) — Second-inning home runs from Owen Galt and Lee Amedee helped fuel a four-run frame, and Louisiana put the game away with a six-run fourth in claiming a 12-3 victory
over App State to claim the Sun Belt Conference series between the schools on Sunday at Smith
Stadium.
Ty Roman (3-4) struck out six batters in 5.2 innings in earning his first victory on the mound
since March 24 as Louisiana (32-20, 14-13 SBC) moved into sole possession of sixth place in the
SBC standings – one game ahead of Texas State, Old Dominion and Marshall – heading into the
final week of the regular season.
Drew Markle had three hits and drove in a pair of runs with a first-inning single with Blaze
Rodriguez, Noah Lewis and Maddox Mandino each recording two hits in Louisiana’s 14-hit
attack.
Galt, in his third start of the season, picked up the first of two hits on the day when he drilled a
2-and-2 pitch from App State starter Tyler Nolan (4-1) over the left field wall for his first
collegiate home run to lead off the second inning. Bunt singles by Mandino and Rodriguez
chased Nolan for reliever Everette Harris, who would allow Amedee’s fourth homer of the
season with an opposite-field blast just inside the left-field foul pole and a 6-0 lead.

After the Mountaineers cut the deficit to 6-2 after three innings, the Ragin’ Cajuns responded in
the fourth, erupting for six runs to take a 12-2 lead.
Amedee reached on a bases-loaded walk before Colt Brown followed with a two-run single up
the middle. Donovan LaSalle followed two batters later with an RBI single through the left side,
Steven Spalitta later drew a bases-loaded walk and Markle scored from third on a passed ball as
Louisiana used five hits in the inning.
Sawyer Pruitt replaced Roman in the sixth inning before Tyler Papenbrock held App State (29-
20, 16-11) scoreless over the final 2.1 innings with a strikeout.
Louisiana won the game against App State with a final score of 12-3.
Owen Galt and Lee Amedee hit home runs, while Ty Roman earned the win with six strikeouts.
After the victory, Louisiana holds sixth place in the Sun Belt Conference standings.

Nolan took the loss for the Mountaineers after surrendering five runs on five hits in 1.0 innings
before being lifted after the first three UL batters reached in the second inning. Reyn Watson –
the fourth of eight pitchers used by the Mountaineers – was the most effective striking out five
of the nine batters he faced and allowing one hit in 2.0 innings of work.
Riley Luft went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer for App State, which had a streak of five straight
SBC series wins snapped. Ethan Puig and Kameron Miller had two hits each for the
Mountaineers, who came into the game leading the SBC in hitting (.316).
