The 56-year-old is a vastly experienced tactician who had long spells as assistant coach at both Chelsea (2011 to 2017) and the English national team (2016 to 2024).
According to Man Utd insider Sully, Holland was originally planning to stay for only six months at Carrington before leaving the club, but the management is determined to retain his services, offering him a new contract.
*“As reported, Carrick is expected to be offered the head coach role,”*posted the journalist on his X (formerly Twitter) account. “Steve Holland is also expected to be offered a new deal with him.
“Holland has impressed internally and been pivotal to the results in the past months. He planned to stay 6 months but MUFC want him to stay longer.”
While the head coach is the one who’s in the public eye, every member of the staff has a vital role to play, especially at the top level.
Therefore, pairing Carrick with the right assistant was a priority for Jason Wilcox and Co., and Holland’s appointment has been described as a brilliant coup.
The Stockport native has been widely applauded for his work. Sully had also identified him as the ‘genius’ who turned Man Utd’s tactics around in the second half of the campaign.
After finding large success and receiving wide praise for his work in his first few months at Carrington, Holland should be encouraged to stay and prolong what has been a remarkable partnership with Carrick.
We can expect official confirmation on this front in the coming days or weeks.
