Spoelstra: No need to penalize Ball any further
Erik Spoelstra supports no further penalties for LaMelo Ball after flagrant foul.
Harry Maguire will miss Manchester United's match against Chelsea due to a one-game ban upheld by the FA for misconduct. This follows his red card in a previous match against Bournemouth, where he was penalized for swearing at the fourth official.
Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire out of Chelsea game after one-game ban as FA uphold misconduct charge
Manchester United will be without Harry Maguire for their Premier League game against Chelsea on Saturday as his Football Association (FA) misconduct charge is set to be upheld, according to The Athletic. The Red Devils centre-back was sent off against Bournemouth, missing the 2-1 defeat to Leeds United at Old Trafford on Monday night as a result. Maguire has now been given an additional one-game ban and a fine after the FA ruled he swore at fourth official Matt Donohue following his red card against the Cherries.
Man United manager Michael Carrick could also be without Lisandro Martinez against the Blues. The Argentine centre-back was sent off against Leeds but the Red Devils are appealing the ban, insisting he did not pull Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s hair with force and was challenging for the ball. However, the PGMO are confident the rulebook was applied correctly having told clubs at the start of the season that hair pulling would be seen as violent conduct. While there is a chance Martinez could get his standard three-game ban reduced, it is viewed as unlikely, and he could miss their next three games.
With Matthijs de Ligt not ready for a return from his back injury, Carrick may need to field Leny Yoro and Ayden Heaven as his centre-back pairing against Chelsea. The young duo will need to be on top of their game against the Blues as Man United will be desperate to return to winning ways after defeat to Leeds. They remain third in the Premier League table heading into matchday 33 but have not yet secured Champions League qualifications for next season. A win against Chelsea will be huge and Carrick will hope Yoro and Heaven can help his side get the job done at Stamford Bridge. The Red Devils play Brentford, Liverpool, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest and Brighton & Hove Albion afterwards and the manager needs to win most of them to convince the board he deserves to be given the job permanently.
