The Seattle Mariners have started to get their ducks in a row as of late, erasing the deficit to the top of the American League West to only a game and a half heading into Sunday afternoonâs action.
Doing so requires a great deal of depth all across the roster, from utility players on the field to a plethora of arms in the bullpen to help finish games; itâs an all-around team effort.
The latter of the two just saw some more bolstering on Sunday afternoon, as the Marinersâ front office made a move to claim Jose Suarez off of waivers from the Atlanta Braves, according to the MLBâs transaction tracker.
The 28-year-old was placed on waivers earlier in the week, after what was quite the tough start to the season, posting an ERA of 6.61 and a WHIP of 2.08 through his eight appearances. Both metrics are much higher than they were during his first season at Truist Park, when heâd pitch to the tune of a 1.86 ERA.
The Mariners claimed Jose Suarez to enhance their pitching depth as they compete closely in the American League West.
Jose Suarez is expected to provide additional support in the bullpen, contributing to the team's overall performance as they pursue playoff contention.
Jose Suarez had been with the Braves before being waived, and his performance will be evaluated as he joins the Mariners' roster.

Following his move to Seattle, Suarez will now have played for a third major league team, having spent time with the Los Angeles Angels, as well as the aforementioned Braves.
This move shouldnât come as too much of a shock, given the injuries that Seattle has to their pitching depth, as Matt Brash and Bryce Miller are currently out due to various reasons.
To make space for the 28-year-old, the Mariners have designated Rhylan Thomas for assignment, according to the league's transaction tracker. Thomas, who has been a part of Seattle's farm system since 2024, struggled in his three appearances this season, slashing a .125/.200/.250 statline.
