Ramirez is not a good defensive catcher, but last season, he hit for enough power (33 doubles, 21 homers) and even stole bases (16 SBs) to somewhat balance it out.
This season, Ramirez has just two homers through 30 games and has been less crucial anyway due to the emergence of Liam Hicks.
Mack is a top-100 prospect, but it's not clear exactly how the Marlins will fit him into the lineup everyday to make this worth it. Hicks can DH or play first base, which would be the obvious way to let Mack get behind the plate.
The 23-year old Mack was a first-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft out of Williamsville East High School in the Buffalo, N.Y. area.
He's regarded as a good defensive catcher and has improved as a hitter as he has played more professional baseball.
This season at Triple-A Jacksonville, Mack has a .766 OPS. He has hit two doubles and three home runs in 24 games. He also has 20 walks compared to 22 strikeouts, a solid ratio.
Mack bats from the left side and will be making his major league debut when he plays for the first time with the Marlins.
