Utah Royals FC achieved a historic fifth consecutive win by defeating Houston Dash 2-0 at home. Mina Tanaka contributed with two assists, and Courtney Brown scored her first goal for the team.
Japanese attacker Mina Tanaka marked her first multi-assist game in her NWSL career on Wednesday night, delivering perfectly positioned passes in both halves to win the match. Canadian attacker Cloé Lacasse was first on the board in the 38th minute. After Tanaka delivered a crisp pass from just outside the 18-yard box, Lacasse was prepared with a right-footed strike that blasted into the center of the net. The goal marked Lacasse’ third of the 2026 season, her other two coming from the previous two matches — claiming the third goal of the 3-0 win over Seattle Reign FC and the game winner against Angel City FC on Saturday. In the 88th minute, Tanaka made a heart-racing breakaway down the right flank before urging the ball into the box with a carefully constructed pass to oncoming Utah native Courtney Brown. The home-grown forward took a touch before blasting a right-footed shot into the back of the net and claiming her first goal for the Royals and raising the score 2-0.
“Our back line and our goalkeepers have been doing a fantastic job — putting their body on the line, putting everything into making sure we come out with a clean sheet, and we take great pride in that,” said Lacasse. “We want to keep having clean sheets, because the longer it’s clean, the better chances we have of continuing this winning streak. It gives us attackers more confidence as well. If they’re working their butts off, we want to do the same up front. So yeah, it’s contagious.”
The Royals held the upper hand for the entirety of the match, working relentlessly to maintain the lead in possession and opportunities on goal. With URFC leading with 22 total shots and 7 shots on frame compared to Houston’s four and three, respectively, the home-team was bound to draw first blood. Early shots from Paige Cronin in the eighth minute and Tanaka in the tenth, showcased URFC’s attacking energy. Royals GK Mandy McGlynn logged her second clean sheet of the 2026 campaign, proving two for two in 90 minutes played this season after coming off injury.
