Matt Fitzpatrick responds when asked who it felt better to beat, Scottie Scheffler or Jordan Spieth

The new world number three spoke to reporters after his fine victory at the RBC Heritage on Sunday evening.

Fitzpatrick was asked who it felt better to beat in the two playoffs at Harbour Town out of Scheffler and Spieth.

“It feels as good as anything. I’ve won twice,“ Fitzpatrick said.

“There’s no preference.“

Every PGA Tour win means the world to Fitzpatrick, but recording two victories at his favourite tournament will taste even sweeter for him.

The golf course is a perfect fit for him and he clearly loves coming back to Harbour Town Golf Links every year.

It will come as a surprise to nobody that the humble Englishman refused to be drawn in when one reporter asked him if he thinks he’s currently the best golfer on the planet.

“No. No, I don’t. I feel like I can still improve,“ Fitzpatrick replied.

*“*There’s areas that I want to get better at. I feel like I’m playing very well right now, but I wouldn’t say I don’t feel like — I don’t know.

“I’d have to ask Scottie if he feels like the best player in the world. I’ve never been there yet, so I wouldn’t know.“

With that kind of attitude, it’s little wonder why Matt Fitzpatrick has won twice on the PGA Tour already this season.

Now the next step will be for him to get into contention regularly at major championships again. He certainly has the game to pick off at least a few more of the four biggest trophies in world golf.
