There's been some recent chatter about the New York Mets potentially going out and making a play for a Boston Red Sox outfielder, but it would also require them to trade for Trevor Story and take on his salary.

I said it a few days ago, and I'll say it again, but there's absolutely no reason to bring Story to this roster.

I don't care what outfielder the Mets are able to get in this scenario, as Story's contract is just ridiculous, and the Mets are in no position to take on any more salary for players who aren't going to help them in the immediate future.

However, that doesn't mean the Mets can't go out and make a deal with the Red Sox for another player, and the latest name to pop up is Willson Contreras.

I don't really love the idea of the Mets trading for any players right now because of how badly the season has gone, but at least I can understand why Contreras would be a guy to consider.

“If Boston is ready to sell, the Mets should keep it simple. Go after the exact matches who can help. This means making an offer for Willson Contreras without one of the outfielders directly. For an infielder, look for someone actually producing. Don’t try to be the hero by believing your system will work better than whatever the heck it is they’ve attempted to accomplish in Boston,” Tim Boyle .
