According to Francys Romero of BeisbolFR, the Mets have acquired infielder Andy Ibanez from the Athletics.
Ibanez, 33, was designated for assignment by the Athletics a few days ago after collecting just two hits in 18 trips to the plate. He only struck out twice, but walked just once in those opportunities.
Ibanez is a native of Cuba and enjoyed a breakout season with the Detroit Tigers in 2023, hitting .264/.312/.433 with 11 home runs and 41 runs batted in. He made his Major League debut in 2021 with the Texas Rangers.
