Injury news has a chance to make it worse.
This is what MLB.com's Anthony DiComo reported on X late Wednesday night:

Sports fans in general will recognize that some kind of Achilles irritation is not a good sign. That's a scary possible precursor to something worse.
Polanco also hasn't been his usual self at the plate. He's just 10-for-56 (.179) on the season with one home run.
He had a revitalized season a year ago in Seattle which prompted the Mets to sign him to play first base (a position he had only played once before in MLB).
Now, though, the Mets are having to use other guys at first, like Mark Vientos. They might have enough depth of younger corner-infield types to be fine, but it's still not the news they want on one of their new veterans that they were counting on.
Mets fans will have to wait and see what the team finally decides about Polanco's injury status on Friday.
