After acquiring right-hander Freddy Peralta in a deal with the Milwaukee Brewers during the offseason, many believed that the New York Mets would have one of the top starters in Major League Baseball at the top of their staff. In his defense, the Mets' 9-19 record is far from his fault.
Peralta has done well enough on the mound to suggest that he still has ace-caliber stuff in his arsenal, though some have now wondered whether the Mets could look to move on from him at the deadline and look to recoup some of the assets they lost in the offseason.
A recent trade proposal from Sports Illustrated would see them do just that in a trade with the Texas Rangers.
Rangers Acquire: Peralta
Mets Acquire: Caden Scarborough, AJ Russell, Emiliano Teodo
“The Mets would make this trade because their season has fallen apart. They’re 9–19, last in the NL East, and have been playing poor baseball overall. Injuries to key players like Francisco Lindor and Jorge Polanco have made things worse and taken away any realistic chance of contending.
“With the team slipping out of the race, they could shift into sell mode at the deadline, moving veterans like Freddy Peralta while his value is high,” Ryan Shea of SI .

If the Mets know that Peralta wants to stay around, I'd opt to keep him and figure out a contract in the winter.
However, if Peralta has any doubt about leaving, there wouldn't be much of a reason to even consider this from the Mets. Peralta is an elite arm, but the Mets are just not in a position right now to lose players for nothing.
