DOLPHINS DRAFT GRADE: Kadyn Proctor pick in first round was surprise
Proctor was effusive in his respect for Achane, the team’s 2025 MVP.
“It feels so good to block for a guy who makes your job easier,” Proctor said. “He’s going to make plays. He’s a great running back. Fast as hell. I can’t wait to block for him.”
Proctor said he and his agent had brainstormed on where he might be drafted — and their predictions proved right on the money.
“I thought top 20 where my range was,” he said. “I think my agent thought the draft starts at 12 for me — and that’s exactly what happened. This is just crazy, a surreal feeling. I had some good talks at the ’30’ visit with the Dolphins. ”
March 25, 2026; Tuscaloosa, AL, USA; Offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor runs a drill for scouts during Pro Day in the Hank Crisp Indoor Practice Facility at the University of Alabama.
Proctor admitted there were tears streaming down his face upon taking the call from coach Jeff Hafley, general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and others in the Dolphins draft room.
Other highlights:
◦ On his attitude when lining up opposite a defensive player: “It's physicality. You're trying to put a man on the ground. That's my favorite part about the game.”
◦ On his meetings with Hafley and Sullivan: “I loved the meetings with them. I mean, they laid it out for me, kind of just laid it down and told me how it was. You know, they're straight shooters and I love that. And they told me, ‘We're trying to play fast, physical, tough football.’ ”
◦ On clips of him as a receiver and ballcarrier: “I go out there and I just try to handle my business, like I said. I'll play guard, I'll play tackle, I'll play center. It doesn't matter, you know, wide receiver. If that means that I'm going out there to help my team win in any way, I'm gonna do it. No question.”
◦ On criticism, including from Nick Saban on the air, that Proctor might not be a self-starter: “It was like that. I was 400 pounds and it was there, in the offseason. That's some of my freshman year, but I feel like I've got a couple of years under my belt to where I've kept that in check. I've built and put a plan in place to go succeed and to be at the weight that I need to be to go out there and provide opportunity.”
◦ On his background: “I have some, you know, family stuff going on, you know, different things. Like, my parents ain't the richest, so I feel like that's definitely an external motivator.”
◦ On his familiarity, if any, with South Florida: “The first time I was in Miami/Florida, was for my ’30’ visit. And I love the city. And I feel like it's going to be a good time, have a fun time down there. But the biggest thing for me is, hey man, no state taxes. That's a blessing right there.”
