Michigan basketball will start a home-and-home series with Marquette next season, with the Wolverines hosting the Golden Eagles on November 11 at Crisler Center. The following year, Michigan will play at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee.
While some college basketball programs might be moving away from scheduling traditional home-and-home series, Michigan isnât one of them.
The Wolverines added another one to the list on Wednesday, when the program announced it has agreed to a home-and-home with Marquette starting next season.
Michigan coach Dusty May, guard Elliot Cadeau (3) and the Wolverines will host Marquette next season.
Michigan will host Marquette at Crisler Center in Ann Arbor on Nov. 11 and will visit the Golden Eagles at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee the following year.
In Shaka Smartâs fifth season as coach, Marquette went 12-20 and finished with its fewest wins in a campaign since 1990-91. The Golden Eagles finished in a three-way tie for seventh place in the Big East with a 7-13 mark and missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time during Smartâs tenure.
Michigan and Marquette last played during the 2016-17 season, with the Wolverines winning at New Yorkâs Madison Square Garden en route to the 2K Classic title. Michigan is 14-6 in the all-time series against Marquette.
Michigan is set to visit Villanova next season in the return game of a home-and-home series and is signed up to compete again in the Players Era tournament, which it won this past season. Coach Dusty May also hasnât ruled out scheduling a nonconference game in late February, like he did against Duke in Washington, D.C. this year.
âWe're still big-game hunting. We're trying to put together some nice marquee games again,â May said on CBS Sportsâ âInside College Basketball Nowâ podcast this week. âTo be honest, after the roster is done, we'll decide how aggressive weâll get with the handful of games we still have left.
âI think our fans, our alums, everyone deserves to see us play the best competition night in, night out that we can. It's better for the game. It's better for the university. Even though it's more stressful, the challenge forces us to get better and stay the course.â
