'Arsenal have flipped the pressure on to Man City in title race'
Arsenal's 3-0 win over Fulham puts pressure on Man City in the title race.

Bill Guerin's leadership has led the Minnesota Wild to their first second-round playoff appearance in over a decade after a 5-2 victory against the Dallas Stars. His aggressive roster changes and steadfast vision are credited for building a legitimate Stanley Cup contender.

The celebration from general manager Bill Guerin was rather subdued after the Wild earned a 5-2 win over the Dallas Stars on Thursday night at Grand Casino Arena to advance to the second round for the first time in more than a decade.
As a multiple time Stanley Cup champion himself, Guerin understands better than most that this was only the first step in a journey that will require so much more blood, so much more sweat and so much more tears.
That said, Guerin seemed to briefly let himself soak in the moment when the final buzzer sounded, watching proudly from his perch in the press box as the Wild celebrated the series win at center ice while the home crowd let out a cathartic roar. It was the type of euphoria that he has been chasing since he arrived in Minnesota.
The most impressive part about Guerin building a legitimate Stanley Cup contender is that he continued to stay aggressive as he completely revamped the roster. He has almost been stubborn as he has remained steadfast in the belief of his vision. He deserves his flowers for that.
The process of Guerin putting his fingerprints on the roster started to unfold about a year and a half after he was hired to help get the Wild over the hump. He named veteran defenseman Jared Spurgeon the captain in January 2021 rather than promoting star winger Zach Parise and star defenseman Ryan Suter.
That might as well have been a shot across the bow, in hindsight, because after watching the Wild bow out in the first round of the playoffs once again, Guerin shocked the world in July 2021 by buying out Parise and Suter. He was willing to stomach that it was going to put the Wild in salary cap hell for the foreseeable future. Thatâs how much Guerin believed the Wild needed to turn the page on Parise and Suter for good.
Itâs probably not a coincidence that the Wild flourished the following campaign without Parise and Suter on the roster. They finished with a franchise record 113 points in the standings, and while it resulted in another early exit in the first round of the playoffs, it finally felt like the Wild were headed in the right direction.
That was a turning point, and it coincided with Guerin making some of his biggest moves to date. He acquired future hall of fame goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury for a draft pick in March 2022, young defenseman for dynamic winger in June 2022, and unproven goaltender for veteran goaltender in July 2022. Those deals were all viewed as questionable in real time and have worked out better than anybody couldâve ever imagined.

That doesnât mean Guerin has been perfect. He gave up a haul of draft picks for defenseman David Jiricek before eventually cutting his losses when it was clear it wasnât going to work out. He also brought in skilled winger Gustav Nyquist as a rental that ended up doing more harm than good.
Those mistakes never stopped Guerin from continuing to swing for the fences. That mindset put him in position to acquire superstar defenseman Quinn Hughes without thinking twice about how much it was going to cost.
That blockbuster trade encapsulated Guerinâs superpower. He could strike out a dozen times in a row, and he would still step up to the plate trying to hit a home run. The confidence to take calculated risks without fear is a key to having success at the highest level.
Itâs fitting that Hughes starred as the Wild defeated the Stars in the series clincher. He recorded a pair of goals and an assist while driving play every time he hopped over the boards. Itâs exactly the type of impact Guerin envisioned when he went out and got Hughes.
It wouldnât shock anybody if Guerin found a way to extend Hughes this summer. It would be par for the course for Guerin as he has already found a way to lock up star wingers Kirill Kaprizov and Matt Boldy long term.
As the Wild prepare to take on the Colorado Avalanche with a spot in the Western Conference finals on the line, they should feel good about their chances knowing thereâs already proof of concept when it comes to Guerin remaining steadfast in the belief of his vision.
There was a lot of criticism thrown Guerinâs way this winter as the architect of Team USA ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy. He stuck to his guns in spite of the outside noise the roster he built helped the U.S. bring home the gold meal for the first time since the Miracle on Ice at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, N.Y.
Maybe there will be more hardware in Guerinâs future. Whoâs knows? The only certainty is that heâs going to keep doing things his way regardless.
