With the second overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, the New York Jets have the chance to make a splash to improve their defense.
According to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports, the Jets have seemingly narrowed their options down to Ohio State's Arvell Reese and Texas Tech's David Bailey. But which of the two is the most likely to be taken?
Jones shared some insight that revealed that most of the NFL and Jones' sources believe that the Jets will play it safe, and take the 14.5 sack edge rusher in Bailey with the No. 2 pick.
"I can't say with absolute confidence who the New York Jets will draft at No. 2 overall next week, but sources say the pick will either be David Bailey or Arvell Reese," Jones reports. "And most of the league - and my sources - believe the Jets will land on Bailey."
In this debate between Bailey and Reese, the two top edge rushers in this year's class, there is a clear reason to go with Bailey over Reese: safety.
Reese would be making the transition to the edge in the NFL, a move that's happened before, but is a big risk. Bailey, meanwhile, has plenty of experience off the edge and has already been a huge producer at the position.

Last season for Texas Tech, he recorded 14.5 sacks, more than good enough production to feel confident taking him No. 2 overall in a weaker draft class.
The Jets are expected to choose David Bailey due to his impressive 14.5 sacks, which make him a safer option for enhancing their defense.
David Bailey plays as an edge rusher in the NFL.
The second overall pick allows the Jets to significantly bolster their defense, which is crucial for their performance in the upcoming season.

It's been trending towards a Reese vs. Bailey debate for much of the offseason for the No. 2 pick, and this report from Jones indicates that Bailey is the clear frontrunner.
Aaron Glenn needs help right now, and Bailey would provide just that. Reese might have the upside, but there is a lot of risk in taking him and not seeing him produce right away. Glenn might not be with the Jets to see Reese's breakout.
