Michigan State's Trey Augustine has been named the top goaltender in all of college hockey.
Augustine was announced as the 2026 Mike Richter Award winner for top goaltender in NCAA Division I hockey on Friday evening. Augustine was considered one of the favorites for the award after another stellar season between the pipes for the Spartans this past year.
Augustine finished the 2025-26 season with a record of 24-9-1 and a career-best .929 save percentage -- which ranked sixth among goalies in the country. He was also selected as the Big Ten recipient for best goalie and top 10 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award.
Augustine starred for the Spartans for three seasons, helping lead Michigan State to three straight Big Ten regular season championships, two Big Ten tournament titles and three straight No. 1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament. He, unfortunately, was never able to reach the Frozen Four before electing to turn pro after the season.
Augustine was already slated to go down as one of the best goaltenders in Michigan State history, and this award only furthers that. This is a great award for a star Spartan that will be missed moving forward to next season.
