Gretchen Walsh makes setting world records in the 100-meter butterfly look as easy as 1, 2, 3, 4.
The Harpeth Hall graduate, who won a silver medal in the event at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris to go along with two gold medals, broke her previous record of 54.60 seconds when she swam a 54.33 on May 2 at the Fort Lauderdale Open.
That's the same pool where she broke the world record twice in one day shy of a year to the day last year.
Walsh holds the 13 fastest times in history in the event.
Walsh first broke the former record of 55.48, held by Sweden's Sarah Sjostrom, when she finished in 55.18 during the 2024 Olympic Trials.
Her latest record puts her more than one second ahead of Sjostrom (54.33 to 55.48), the largest margin between the fastest and second-fastest swimmer in a 100-meter event, men's or women's.

The Tennessean's 2024 Sportsperson of the Year holds five other world records.
Walsh also holds world records in the 4x100 medley relay, the mixed gender 4x100 meter relay, the 50-meter butterfly (short course), 100-meter butterfly (short course) and the 100-meter IM (short course).
She was swimming in Fort Lauderdale in preparation for this summer’s Pan Pacific Championships in Irvine, California, Aug. 12-15.
