Could fans witness a Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. partnership back up on the Utah Jazz? Despite the current rumors, the current word is don’t count on it.
Even though Morant and Jackson, who played almost seven seasons together at the Memphis Grizzlies, were seen supporting former Memphis teammate Desmond Bane during the Orlando Magic‘s playoff game, NBA insider Marc Stein says that Morant will be unlikely to join Jackson in Utah, where he was traded earlier this year.
“That scene not only brought on a wave of nostalgia for numerous NBA onlookers but also naturally prompted the question: Is a Morant/Jackson reunion in Salt Lake City in any way feasible?” Stein wrote in his Substack.
“My sense is no. Sources say that the Jazz, who have the emerging Keyonte George at the forefront of their backcourt, are not currently regarded as a possible landing spot for Morant with Memphis widely expected to resume its efforts to trade him in the coming weeks.”
Memphis are in the midst of overhauling their roster, and Morant is undoubtedly the largest domino left to fall. Last year June, the Grizzlies executed a trade with the Magic, who shipped a pair of players and, most importantly, four unprotected first-round draft picks in exchange for Bane.
Then, before this year’s deadline, the Grizzlies sent Jackson and three more players to the Jazz for three more first-rounders, plus a few players.
Ja Morant has two years and about $87 million left on the five-year, $197.2 million deal he signed with the back in 2022. Since then, he has struggled to stay healthy on the court as a result of several injuries, as well as a few suspensions for off-the-court incidents.

The first major date of the NBA offseason this year is the NBA draft on June 23 and 24. Nonetheless, a trade involving Morant, a former second overall selection, could certainly factor into the annual event.
