NEW YORK -- Brooklyn Nets center Day'Ron Sharpe once again had another good season as the backup center to starter Nic Claxton despite the fact that the Nets finished with a losing record. Sharpe should be back with Brooklyn next season as he has a team option for the 2026-27 season worth $6.25 million and it seems like the fanbase recognizes how valuable Sharpe's deal is.
In a poll conducted by Bleacher Report, 43% of respondents chose Sharpe as the player with the best contract on the team, followed by rookie guard Egor Demin with 26% of the vote. Sharpe is coming off a 2025-26 NBA season in which he averaged 8.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.1 steal per game while shooting 60.1% from the field in just 18.7 minutes played per contest.
"Having cheapo team options on both Day'Ron Sharpe and Noah Clowney next year is a big deal for Brooklyn. The same goes for Ziaire Williams, though the absence of a distinct career arc cost him," Dan Favale wrote for Bleacher Report when giving his opinion on the polling results. "Sharpe winning with 43 percent of votes is somewhat stunning. It isn't that he's not a bargain. The Nets just have so many others."
This past season, Sharpe was the 230th highest-paid player in the league, but he was one of just 46 players to average at least eight points, six rebounds, and two assists per game. While Sharpe has a team option for next season that the Nets will most likely pick up, he is eligible for an long-term extension. However, Sharpe is moving forward with his summer seeming comfortable with the uncertainty at this point in time.
Nets fans view Sharpe's contract as the best due to its affordability and his solid performance, averaging 8.7 points and 6.7 rebounds per game.
