New England Patriots Exec Adds Fuel To A.J. Brown Trade Rumors

The New England Patriots aren’t tipping their hand here. But the buzz around a potential move for A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles? Yeah, that noise isn’t going away anytime soon.

As of now, nothing’s locked in. And until something actually hits the wire, it’s business as usual in Foxborough. That said, the Patriots remain one of the most logical landing spots if Philly even cracks the door open on a trade.

League chatter suggests this could be a post–June 1 play, mainly to finesse the cap hit. But don’t rule out a pre-draft shocker either. With the NFL Draft looming in late April, a move like this would instantly shake up the board and reset the WR market in a big way.

Patriots Leave the Door Wide Open For A.J. Brown

It wasn’t exactly a shocker when A.J. Brown came up during Monday’s presser with Eliot Wolf—but if you were expecting a straight answer, you were reading the wrong playbook.

Wolf kept it classic front-office mode: non-committal, doors wide open, nothing on the record. As Doug Kyed shared on X, Wolf said, “Patriots EVP Eliot Wolf when asked about A.J. Brown: “As far as players on other teams, going to keep the door open to anything that we think may improve our roster, whether that’s with the player you mentioned or other players.”

It’s not a surprise to see Wolf avoid directly commenting on Brown and any possible negotiations. There’s real connective tissue between the Pats and Brown. Mike Vrabel and Brown go way back to their Tennessee Titans days (2019–2021), which only fuels the “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” narrative.

Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles haven’t exactly shut down the trade chatter. If anything, their recent moves, adding Hollywood Brown, Elijah Moore, and flipping for Dontayvion Wicks, feel like roster insulation. Not replacements for Brown, but enough depth to soften the blow if he’s moved.

From a cap standpoint, this has “post–June 1” written all over it. That’s when Philly can maneuver the dead money hit a lot cleaner. But if they want max draft capital in return, pulling the trigger before draft night could make sense—even if it stings the books a bit more.

All in all, nothing’s imminent, and nothing’s guaranteed.

But the Patriots? They’re lurking. And if that door Wolf mentioned stays open, don’t be shocked if A.J. Brown eventually walks right through it.
