The NFL Network's recent tight end prospect rankings have sparked controversy by placing Brock Bowers behind three other tight ends, despite his historic achievements. Bowers is a two-time Mackey Award winner and was widely regarded as a top talent for the 2024 draft.
It's silly season. That's to say the time of year when NFL Draft prospect hot takes fly around like crazy. But usually those hot takes only reflect on the current prospects. Some takes are so bad they catch strays. This is about one such case.
The NFL Network, in trying to hype up Kenyon Sadiq's draft status completely memory holed just how generational a talent Brock Bowers obviously was when he came out of Georgia a couple years ago. Not only did they rank him not as the top tight end prospect since 2020, but somehow managed to put three other tight ends ahead of him.
This isn't just a matter of opinion here. This is a matter of history. And apparently very bad memory.
Brock Bowers was the only two-time Mackey Award winning tight end in history. He was considered possibly the bet talent overall in the 2024 draft at any position. The same could not be said for the three tight ends.
Tyler Warren wasn't even the top tight end prospect IN HIS OWN DRAFT (2025). That went to Colston Loveland and there's simply no chance he was a more highly regarded prospect than Bowers.
Kyle Pitts is the only other tight end who you could possibly even make any sane argument.
The only reason the Raiders were able to land Bowers at 13 overall in his respective draft is because SIX quarterbacks were taken in the top 12 picks. The other six players were made up of wide receivers and tackles -- all higher value positions. The Raiders didn't even need a tight end. But Bowers was too good to pass up.
Then all Bowers did was go out and set an all-time NFL rookie tight end receiving record that had stood for six decades.
This list a complete joke and I have to believe the NFL Network knows it.
