NEW DELHI: Rohit Sharma made a strong return after recovering from injury, while Suryakumar Yadav led in the absence of Hardik Pandya as Mumbai Indians cruised to a six-wicket win over Lucknow Super Giants in their IPL 2026 clash at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday. Despite the win, Mumbai remain ninth on the points table with three wins and seven losses from 10 matches, with six points and a net run rate of -0.649.
After the match, pacer Deepak Chaharâs sister Malti Chahar took to social media to congratulate the team, praising Suryaâs captaincy and Rohitâs knock.
"THIS felt like MI again! Almost everyone performed. Well played, Ryan and Rohit bhaiya! Nice captaincy by Surya. And Deepak delivering all four overs-well bowled, bro! Proper team game. This is MI!" Malti wrote.
Rohit top-scored with 84, while Ryan Rickelton made 83 as Mumbai Indians completed the highest successful run chase at the venue. They moved to six points but remain second from bottom, clinging to slim playoff hopes.
Put into bat, Nicholas Pooran blasted a 16-ball half-century, scoring 63 off 21 balls, while Mitchell Marsh added 44 off 25 as LSG recovered from a middle-order wobble to post 228/5 in what was a must-win game for both teams.
In response, Mumbai rode on half-centuries from Rohit and Rickelton to chase down 229/4 in 18.4 overs, sealing victory with eight balls to spare. LSG slumped to their sixth consecutive defeat and remain bottom of the table with four points.
"To be very frank, we've been in this situation a lot of times this season. It was nothing new, to be very honest. But then I knew, T20 cricket after the powerplay from 7 to 10, that's the best time when you can pull the game off. We knew two wickets here and there, and I can take control of the game. And the way all the bowlers responded, I think they showed a lot of character. (on getting back into the game) I think about 8-9 overs, they were 110 or 120 for 1 or 2," Surya said after the match.
"I don't really remember. But then from there, pulling it to 162 for 5 in 16 overs, I think the performance was unbelievable. Everyone had that belief, they had their clear plans. I didn't tell them anything. It was just little, little backing involved in few situations. But then at the end of the day, the way they displayed their character and the way they bowled, I think commendable. (on the chase) See, even we scored 244 a few days back and Sunrisers chased it. So we always knew, anything around 220-225-230 will be chaseable. And the way we started our batting, Ryan Rickelton, he has been batting beautifully," he said.
Mumbai Indians won the match by six wickets, chasing down the target successfully.
Suryakumar Yadav captained Mumbai Indians in the absence of Hardik Pandya.
Rohit Sharma top-scored with 84 runs in the match.
Malti Chahar praised Surya's captaincy and Rohit's performance, expressing that it felt like MI again.

"And as I said, at the toss, our very own Rohit Sharma coming back into the side, fit, ready, raring to go. And the way he displayed, the way he showed the entertainment to the crowd, I think it was unbelievable. (on the opening stand) See, I think it's always important to have a good start when you're chasing 200-225. And the way they batted together, it looked they were always in control. What team required from them, they did the same thing. And then at the end, the way Naman Dhir and everyone batted, I think it was nice," Surya said.
