No. 5 Frankfort defeated No. 4 Northern 8-2, with Peyton Kimble striking out 10 batters. Frankfort scored five runs in the seventh inning, securing their victory.
ACCIDENT — Peyton Kimble pitched a gem, and No. 5 Frankfort tacked on five runs in the seventh to down No. 4 Northern, 8-2, on Monday.
The Falcons (15-10) had six hits in the seventh inning alone, and Kimble held the Huskies (12-7) to five base knocks for the game.
Kimble allowed two runs across seven innings, striking out 10 and walking three.
Frankfort's Jordan-Marie Owens singled three times, Addyson Merritt doubled, singled and drove in two runs, Claire Westfall had a pair of base hits, and Dayahna Imes had a pair of RBIs.
Rain Ritchey was tabbed with the loss, allowing six earned runs in six innings with five strikeouts. Bailey Champlin pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
Ritchey went 2 for 3 at the plate with a double and two runs batted in.
Northern has a bye to the Class 1A West Region I semifinals next week after capturing the No. 2 seed.
Frankfort is at Mountain Ridge on Tuesday and hosts Martinsburg on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
No. 3 Keyser 20, Berkeley Springs 2
KEYSER, W.Va. — No. 3 Keyser blasted five home runs in a four-inning rout of Berkeley Springs on Monday.
Bibs Felton homered twice during Keyser's 10-run first inning. The second, a three-run shot, was the first leg of back-to-back jacks, with Brielle Root following with a long ball.
Sophie Lambka belted a three-run bomb in the third inning, and Mady McIntyre ended the proceedings with a walk-off grand slam that secure a run-rule margin in the fourth.
McIntyre just missed the cycle, adding a triple and double, Suzy Cosenza tripled and doubled, and Kailynn Burns and Leah Foutz doubled.
McIntyre was the winning pitcher, surrendering two runs on two hits in three innings. Kamryn Buck was tabbed with the loss for Berkeley Springs.
Keyser (18-4) is at Hampshire (0-22) on Thursday at 5 p.m.
Southern 8-4, Preston 2-3
OAKLAND — Southern swept a doubleheader with Preston on Monday.
The Rams (9-11) played the first game as the visitors due to the original game at Preston being postponed.
With the score tied at 2, Adeline Wilson led off the third with a double, and she scored on a groundout by Olivia Hayhurst.
Southern added three runs in the fourth inning, led by Halee Bruckey’s single and Wilson’s double, and tacked on two in the sixth with singles by Ava Witt and Bruckey and a home run by Wilson.
Bruckey and Wilson combined for eight strikeouts and allowed four hits. Wilson was the winning pitcher, throwing four shutout innings of two-hit ball in relief.
McKenzie Price took the loss as the pitcher for Preston.
Bruckey was the winning pitcher for Southern in the second game, combining with the starting pitcher Wilson to strike out eight and scatter four hits.
Preston jumped out to a 3-0 lead before Southern took the lead for good in the fourth. Bruckey blasted a three-run homer over the left-field fence.
Frankfort won the game against Northern with a final score of 8-2.
Peyton Kimble was the standout pitcher, striking out 10 batters and allowing only two runs over seven innings.
Frankfort scored five runs in the seventh inning.
Jordan-Marie Owens had three singles, Addyson Merritt drove in two runs with a double and a single, while Dayahna Imes also contributed with two RBIs.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Hampshire was routed across two games at Martinsburg on Monday.
The Trojans (0-22) were led in Game 1 by Peyton Billmeyer, who had both of Hampshire's hits. Charly Ashton tripled and Kaitlyn Ferguson doubled in the second game.
Hampshire hosts Keyser (18-4) on Thursday at 5 p.m.
