Saturday is a big day for Notre Dame fans, and it could get even bigger.
Irish 2027 target, Zayden Gamble, announced on Thursday that he will be making his commitment on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. CST, and the Blue and Gold are listed in the final four finalists alongside Ohio State, Florida, and Miami.
Gamble, a standout safety from St. Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has emerged as a major recruiting priority for a lot of the top programs in the country. His range, instincts, and physicality are all traits that have made him one of the most sought after defensive backs in his class. At 5-foot, 11-inches and 190-pounds he has the size to make an impact in his first year of college. He is currently ranked as the No. 14 safety in his class and the No. 176 overall in his class by the 247Sports Composite.
The Irish have remained firmly in the mix throughout Gamble's recruitment. In an interview (subcription required), Zayden had this to say about the Irish:“What put Notre Dame so high on my list is the combination of academics and sports,” he said. “The brotherhood and the bond I’ve built with the coaches, players and commits also stands out. “Notre Dame is very different from every other school because not everybody can go to Notre Dame. But every Notre Dame player could go everywhere.”
The timing of the announcement is also of interest for Notre Dame fans. The Irish are holding their annual spring game on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Notre Dame Stadium. That could give Notre Dame a major recruiting showcase for other perspective recruits as well.
Notre Dame's development of their defensive backs has been elite as of late, and just this week it had been discussed how defensive back Leonard Moore could very well be a in next year's . Quite possibly, seeing Notre Dame players continually getting developed and moving on to the NFL and then seeing the passion of Irish fans on Saturday could make Zayden realize that South Bend is indeed where he wants to spend his future.
