Nuggets trade idea swaps Aaron Gordon for $186 million ex-Lakers superstar, NBA champion

“Maybe the same package could swipe Anthony Davis? None of this seems especially likely. If there's a big name coming to Denver, it's someone old, someone injured, someone overpaid, or someone scaring off richer suitors through some other means.”

Trading for Davis wouldn’t solve the Nuggets’ problems going forward. The Kentucky product’s 5.5-year stint with the Lakers was objectively a success.

In addition to winning a championship with Los Angeles in 2020, Davis proved that he could be a game-changing two-way frontcourt stud in a major NBA market. However, Davis’ recurring injury woes made shipping him to the Dallas Mavericks for Luka Doncic last February a no-brainer move.

Davis’ health issues continued with the Mavericks, as persistent setbacks limited him to 29 games with his new club. Dallas ended the Davis experiment before this year’s trade deadline, trading him, along with Jaden Hardy, D’Angelo Russell, and Dante Exum, to the Washington Wizards for Khris Middleton, Marvin Bagley, AJ Johnson, and draft capital.

The Nuggets should undoubtedly entertain the idea of trading Gordon, but landing Davis in a deal centered on the former No. 4 overall pick shouldn’t be on the table.
