Nuno Santo says referees âdonât know what is a foulâ after ruling out West Ham goal
West Ham manager Nuno Santo says that referees are unsure what constitutes a foul after West Hamâs goal against Arsenal was ruled out and the Gunners won 1-0.
Arsenal scored in the 83rd minute thanks to Leandro Trossard and it seemed they had won the game, before Callum Wilson scored in the 95th minute from a corner, but the goal was ruled out.
Wilson struck in from close distance, and the goal was initially given but it went to a VAR review and it was concluded that Pablo had impeded David Raya earlier in the sequence.
It was a huge call, and Santo had his say after the game when speaking to Sky Sports: âDue to the circumstances of the game, the way the game finished, we were all upset of course. Look, I didnât pay attention to the replay, just to not get more upset and avoid it.
âBut look, thereâs a referee, thereâs VAR, thereâs circumstances in the past that have been judged different. So, letâs not go much further than that. Due to the recent seasons, itâs been happening and even the referees donât know what is a foul, what isnât a foul. So, it creates a lot of doubts and speculation around it.â
The game was poised at 0-0 for the majority of the 90 minutes, and Santo was insistent that West Ham played well and can take positives from the performance.
âLetâs look at the game overall. I think before we had a good chance, we made a very good match. The attitude, the character, the belief, how we played, how the boys went for it. We created situations, we tried to control Arsenal, itâs a tough team.
Nuno Santo stated that referees 'donât know what is a foul' following the disallowed goal in the match against Arsenal.
