Ohio State coach Ryan Day's son, RJ, has committed to Northwestern University, a Big Ten rival. RJ, a quarterback at St. Frances de Sales High School, chose Northwestern over several other FBS offers.

Ohio State football head coach Ryan Day has a son who he'll be competing against in the not-too-distant future. That's because his son, RJ, the starting quarterback for St. Frances de Sales High School, committed to Big Ten foe Northwestern on Saturday. Hayes Fawcett of Rivals was the first to report the news.
The younger Day had several FBS offers, including from Brian Hartline at USF, but also from the likes of Syracuse, Purdue, Boston College, Cincinnati, and others. In the end, the lure of playing for a Big Ten team that also has great academics must have won out. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Day is ranked as the No. 86 quarterback and 1,361 overall prospect in the 2027 class.
The commitment makes sense because RJ will be going to a place where his father has one of the deepest relationships he has. Chip Kelly, Day's mentor, under whom he worked, and the former Buckeye offensive coordinator, is now the offensive coordinator for Northwestern.
Though the Big Ten doesn't release schedules as far in advance as it used to, now that the conference has expanded to 18 teams, the Buckeyes are scheduled to travel to Evanston in Day's freshman season. OSU is not scheduled to play the Wildcats in 2028, and that's as far out as the conference schedule goes.
We've yet to hear from the OSU head coach on this news, but if and when we do, we'll all be interested. Either way, congratulations go out to RJ and his future at a great Big Ten institution.
