Former Ohio State star and No. 4 pick of the Tennessee Titans, Carnell Tate, just got a whole lot richer and continues to prove why Columbus is the elite landing spot for wide receivers. The Titans have secured their first-round pick by signing the former Buckeye with a deal that is worth north of $50 million.
Agents Drew Rosenhaus, Robert Bailey, and Oliver Chell shared the news of a four-year, fully guaranteed deal, which includes a signing bonus of $33.6 million. What was once a long, drawn-out process is now pretty much a formality after a collective bargaining agreement set the value based on a player's draft slot.
Tate became the sixth Ohio State receiver to be drafted in the first round in the past five seasons, joining Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, Marvin Harrison Jr, and Emeka Egbuka. He became only the second receiver drafted in the first five picks in the last decade, an honor shared with Harrison.
Tate will look to become a true No. 1 receiver in Tennessee, something he never had the chance to do in Columbus, playing in the shadows of Egbuka and Jeremiah Smith. He'll now be the focal point of a revamped Titan's passing attack.
