Omar Cooper, Jr. rookie fantasy outlook and impact on WR teammates

The Jets selected WR Omar Cooper, Jr. in the first round of the NFL draft. What is his realistic 2026 fantasy outlook, and how might his presence impact Garrett Wilson and Adonai Mitchell?

It’s simple logic: a quarterback who throws for 3,500 yards and 25 scores generally can’t feed as many fantasy-friendly receivers as a quarterback who throws for 4,500 yards and 35 scores. Whether or not Geno Smith’s best days are behind him, his rapid decline these past two seasons cannot be ignored. Whether it’s Justin Fields or Tyrod Taylor or Zach Wilson, this franchise has struggled to produce more than one fantasy-relevant WR (i.e., Garrett Wilson when healthy).

The one exception was in 2024, when Aaron Rodgers threw to Wilson and Davante Adams. It was perhaps the most talented WR pairing the Jets have ever had, with an aged yet capable QB giving them 268 combined targets.

Managers drafting the rookie Cooper are taking a chance on a #2 or #3 WR on a team with an ascending TE (Mason Taylor) and a good-to-great pass-catching backfield (Breece Hall, backed by Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis). A few years ago, Geno Smith might have come close to matching Rodgers’ 2024 success. Instead, we’re looking at a receiving corps unquestionably led by Wilson, with Cooper, Mitchell, and everyone else playing second fiddle.

Cooper and Mitchell have comparable fantasy ceilings in 2026, meaning deep leaguers should fully fade the debate over which one has a better ADP. Dynasty managers need to hope that the Jets eventually will find a franchise-elevating quarterback to make good use of their budding WR nucleus.
