Nikola Jokic has won 51 playoff games without All-Star help, ranking just behind LeBron James, who has 66. Jokic's total could increase as he continues his career, especially with Jamal Murray's recent All-Star selection.
In light of how much flak three-time league MVP Nikola Jokic has caught of late after his Denver Nuggets were embarrassingly ousted in the first round by a very undermanned Minnesota Timberwolves team, we decided to take a look through the annals of NBA history to figure out who has done the most with the least amount of help in the NBA playoffs of yesteryear.
And what we found out was surprising.
We learned that in NBA playoff history, only four-time NBA champion LeBron James has won more playoff games without All-Star help than Jokic, and he only accomplished that because of his 200 extra playoff appearances. It would not be surprising at all to see Jokic earn this record outright before it's all said and done.
Jokic has won 51 playoff games in his career without an All-Star teammate. James? 66. And Jokic's number would be a bit higher had Jamal Murray not made an All-Star team for the first time in his career this season. What's more, unless we consider Murray a lock to become a perennial All-Star, then there's a very good chance Jokic surpasses James in this metric sooner rather than later, as he's got so much of his prime left to go.
Wins without All-NBA Teammates
James racked up a ton of playoff wins without an All-Star teammate in 2016 when he won 16 postseason games - and a championship - without an All-Star teammate, but it was more of a technicality. We say that because Irving and Love, both multi-time All-Stars by 2016, weren't All-Stars in 2016 itself, which gave James a ton of extra wins for this exercise, fair or not. Irving and Love were All-Star-level players who simply weren't All-Stars that season for different circumstances.

Irving, because of injury, didn't suit up for his first game of that season until Dec. 20 of that year, so he was snubbed of All-Star honors. And Kevin Love had a down regular season in general that year, shooting 41.9 percent from the floor and 36.0 percent from three, leading to his getting snubbed from the All-Star festivities that season.
Jokic, meanwhile, won 16 games in the 2022-23 postseason - and a ring - without a single All-Star teammate. In addition, that Nuggets roster had just one player outside of Jokic who had ever been an All-Star to that point, and that was DeAndre Jordan, who accomplished that feat exactly one time prior to 2023. Jordan played a whopping 14 minutes during Denver's 2023 title run, by the way, just to show you how much All-Star help Jokic received that year.
It speaks to Jokic's brilliance that he's so far up this list at just 31 years old. Does the big Serbian have some flaws in his game, namely on the defensive end? Sure. Is it concerning how much worse the Nuggets perform when the defensive Swiss Army Knife and Jokic's frontcourt partner, Aaron Gordon, has to miss time? Certainly.
But there's no question that Jokic has been asked to carry an unusually high amount of the load on the offensive end year in and year out due to his lack of All-Star help on the Nuggets' roster. And it's reflecting on the team's postseason record in the Joker era.
